Chapter 4: Hunter

I walked around the corner and came face to face with our attackers. I smiled and said, “Nice to see you guys again.”

The tallest boy of the threesome replied, “If only this were a friendly visit.”

I looked at the girl, “Angel.”

“Hunter,” she replied in her deadly English accent.

I smirked, “How have you been?”

Angel looked at me annoyed. “Cut the small talk, Hunter. We both know we’re after the girl.”

“So hand ‘er over,” the shorter boy said.

“Come on, Mitch. You know me better than to think I’d just give you Rose,” I said.

“I don’t think you have much of a choice, Grey,” the taller boy spoke again.

“And I don’t think you all pose much of a threat, Frank.”

Angel smirked. “Maybe not to you.”

“But to an inexperienced, unprotected girl,” Frank said.

“We are quite harmful,” Mitch finished.

“All of us,” Angel added.

“Damn,” I muttered. I hadn’t been able to sense Leon and now he was alone with Rosaline. I looked at my smug company and analyzed my strategy.

“Hey, love,” Angel called. “I know what you’re doing. It’s not going to work. You aren’t the only one who’s been training since you left the Academy.”

“Oh really?” I joked. “Too bad we won’t have time to see your new skills.

Angel scowled at me. “Quite cocky we are.”

I smiled and shrugged. “Force of habit as you know.”

“Frank. Mitch. Attack,” Angel commanded the others.

The two boys charged at lightning speed. I dodged and punched Mitch in the stomach. He fell to the ground as Frank aimed a punch at my head. The blow made me dizzy, but I stayed standing.

“Come on Frankie. I know you can hit harder than that,” I taunted.

“Frank, stay focused,” Angel yelled.

“Aw, little Frankie takes orders from mommy Angel now?” I teased.

“Damn you, Grey! Shut up!” Frank yelled at me and he punched me in the head again.

“What the bloody hell, Frank!? Follow orders!” Angel yelled.

I kicked Frank in the stomach and punched him twice in the face. He fell to the ground and I glanced at Angel.

“That’s all you’ve got, Ang?”

“Don’t get too ahead of yourself, Hunt. Our orders were…mostly followed,” she glared at Frank. “Leon is in charge now,” she added with a smirk.

“Crap.” I’d forgotten about Leon, again. I started to go back to Rosaline, when Angel jumped in front of me.

“Oh no you don’t, pretty boy,” she said.

“Get out of my way, Ang!” I yelled.

“You’re not going anywhere.”

We stared at each other, then she smiled. “Take a picture. It will last longer,” she joked.

“Thanks for the offer,” I said, “but I already have one, remember?”

She glared at me then tried to punch me in the stomach. I caught her hand and smiled. “Too slow, sweetheart,” I said.

“Don’t call me sweetheart!” she yelled and tried to hit me again.

I grabbed her wrist and pinned her to the ground. “Not today, Angel. Not ever again,” I said, staring at her.

I got up and went back to Rosaline. When I got back around the corner, a boy was standing close to her. Too close.

“Get away from her!” I yelled.
