Sunset Sky

As the light calls out to me, I reach to capture it’s glow.
The wispy fingers reach back in an effort to touch mine, but are stopped by their infinite journey and a wall of cold glass.

My darling sky, I can’t hold thee close, but I still yearn for you.
Your free openness and inviting path to nothing but bright days and happiness.

How I wish I could spread my wings and fly up to meet you,
But alas I am trapped in my small box, feathered appendages pinned down and stripped bare.

How it hurts to not be with my one true one,
But there’s nothing I can do when you’re so far away and my heart’s left so empty.
